At the boundary of fantasy, reality, aesthetics, and politics, the paintings are conceived as sculptures or flawed images, derived from failed photographs, intimate visual fragments, sometimes hidden on a phone screen: marginal images circulating outside the dominant frameworks of legitimation.<\/p><p>By re-gendering it, Monique Wittig's formula becomes <em><sup>\u00ab<\/sup><\/em><em>\"gays are not men\"<\/em><em><sup>\u00bb<\/sup><\/em> It is important to remember that this \u201ccategory\u201d is a political construct that is situated and exclusionary for some of us who are attached to it.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">As Josch Hoenes analyzes, certain normative images of masculinity \u2014 notably the figure of the bodybuilder \u2014 can produce <em><sup>\u00ab<\/sup><\/em><em>positives<\/em><em><sup>\u00bb<\/sup><\/em><sup>1<\/sup> identifications by making socially marginalized subjectivities legible.<\/p><p>The body then tells of another way of living, close to the <em><sup>\u00ab<\/sup><\/em><em>total freedom<\/em><em><sup>\u00bb<\/sup><\/em> and the physical and poetic dimension of existence claimed by Pasolini or photographed by Mapplethorpe. The gay body becomes the subject; it creates <em><sup>\u00ab<\/sup><\/em><em>another reality where the asshole takes power by replacing the imaginary phobic object with its aesthetic double.<\/em><em><sup>\u00bb<\/sup><\/em> <sup>2<\/sup><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cd8d1e9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cd8d1e9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><sup>1<\/sup> Josch Hoenes, <em>Cahier du Genre, Body Images and Formations of Trans Men, <\/em>Universit\u00e9 Carl von Ossietzky d\u2019Oldenburg, 2014 :<em> \u201cConforming to a recognizable masculine norm \u2013 particularly through the figure of the bodybuilder \u2013 can produce so-called \u2018positive\u2019 forms of identification for certain transgender subjectivities, making their existences socially legible and therefore livable.
